I first was introduced to science fiction in 1950, at the age of 13, when I purchased a copy of a book called Science Fiction Galaxy, edited by Groff Conklin (probably the best editor in the genre who was not also a writer). It was a Permabook (back in the days when Permabooks were the size of paperbacks, but with hard covers.) I still have that book and about six-thousand others (an estimate, I've lost count).

I am the divorced father of four and grandfather of eight. I retired in 1999, and divided my time between reading, watching old (and new) movies, and the computer; until I recently returned to my profession on a part-time basis. Before retirement, I did many things, the two of which I am most proud being a career soldier (retired First Sergeant), and reporter for a local radio station, the job I now do part-time.

Besides SF, I enjoy reading many other types of fiction and non-fiction, especially mysteries (Rex Stout is my favorite), political thrillers, some horror, historical fact and fiction, and much more. I am, in short, a compulsive reader.

Politically, I'm a libertarian conservative, not the same thing as a libertarian, and not the same thing as a traditionalist conservative. I'm a fundamentalist, born-again Christian. Some of you might find that odd in a science-fiction fan, but I find no conflict whatever; in fact I believe the two complement each other.
